Figures Underwater. 2016 - Ongoing
This is a collection of images that observes humans underwater: the light on skin, the fluidity of movement and the exemption from gravity. When I observe people underwater I have always noticed gracefulness. The absence of gravity extends movement and our poses become poetic. Viewing in black and white creates a stark contrast between human and ocean to juxtapose our foreignness as we navigate the suffocating depths below. By studying people underwater I capture the interaction they have with the estranged environment around them, bringing us back to the inquisitive nature we have as children. I find a freedom of self in the ocean – no restraints to excitement and awe, a complete thrill to explore, and a place to become a child again.
